Suffolk County maintains a Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) program, through which qualifying businesses may be certified as a M/WBE by the County’s Office of Minority Affairs.
Becoming certified allows a business to be listed in the County’s M/WBE database, which is used by the County to send email alerts about upcoming projects. Furthermore, certification as an M/WBE can increase a business’s access to contracting, as all general and prime contractors with Suffolk County are required to submit an M/WBE utilization plan along with their bid responses and RFPs.
Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? Bidders must submit utilization plans to Suffolk County along with their bids detailing how they plan to make use of M/WBEs.
