The State of New Jersey offers a Minority and/or Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) certification. The criteria for eligibility is listed in full on the program web page. The program states that while New Jersey state government does not give "any priority" to M/WBEs, various other local and municipal contracts may give special consideration during the bidding process, and that certification can thus be an aid when obtaining certain government contracts.
Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? The state lists "MSDC or Other Fast Track Certification" (referring to the Minority Supplier Development Council), indicating there are methods to having one's MSDC certification recognized by the state, but application must still be made directly to the state for MWBE certification.
Does this certification expire? Certification status must be verified every year. First time M/WBE applicants must additionally fully renew (as distinct from verifying) their application after one year. After that, they will need to verify once per year, and make a full renewal every three years.
