The Minority and Women's Business Enterprises (MWBE) Division manages the State of Indiana's efforts to encourage and improve minority and women business involvement in state procurement. Indiana has annual MWBE participation goals for state contracts. Without MWBE certification, an eligible business may miss out subcontracting opportunities, networking events, and training opportunities. Certification with the MWBE Division takes a few weeks and is free.
Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? While out-of-state applications are considered under certain criteria, the application must still be made as normal.
Does this certification expire? A certification is valid for three years. During that time an Affadavit of Continued Eligibility must be submitted annually. After the expiry of the certification on the third anniversary of initial certification, a firm may apply for certification again using the same procedures as used initially.
Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? Participation goals for MWBEs are set on state contracts and bidders must make a good-faith effort to meet those goals.
