Through the minority-owned and women-owned business enterprises (MBE/WBE) Procurement Program, the City of Austin encourages MBEs and WBEs to participate in city contracting as prime contractors and subcontractors.
Many of the city's contracts have MBE/WBE subcontracting goals, and prime contractors are required to invite MBEs and WBEs to supply goods or services on those contracts.
In addition to using contract goals to promote MBE/WBE inclusion, the city's Small & Minority Business Resources Department (SMBR) holds monthly workshops, surety bonding counseling, and offers access other resources aimed at helping MBEs and WBEs grow their business.
