High Point City Council mulls MWBE disparity study

NC News - Published Apr 12, 2023

The High Point City Council is considering conducting a disparity study into conditions for minority- and woman-owned businesses (MWBEs) seeking government contract work from the City of High Point.

The study would look into whether or not MWBEs have been utilized in government procurement at a rate matching what would be expected based on their availability in the area, and, should a finding of disparity be made, make recommendations on remedying those disparities. Currently, the City Council has issued a recommendation in favor of issuing an RFP seeking a firm to conduct such a study.

The potential RFP for a disparity study follows a 2020 goal set by the City Council of raising the level of MWBE utilization made by the City in its public procurements.
