Charles County considering revisions to MBE, SLBE purchasing

MD News - Published Jul 27, 2023

The Charles County Commissioners are in the middle of a process of evaluating legislation on making revisions to the County's Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Program and the Small Local Business Enterprise (SLBE) Program.

The bill, number 2023-06, "Revisions to Purchasing Procedures and the Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Program", encompasses a number of changes, those being: a set-aside program for SLBEs for informal procurements under $50,000, including a ten percent preference on such contracts where there was not otherwise a qualifying SLBE response; raising the limit at which a purchase order must be prepared on a purchase order form from $1,000 to $2,500; and raising the formal procurement threshold from $25,000 to $50,000.
