Durham County initiates MBE, WBE disparity study process

NC News - Published Aug 29, 2023

Durham County is currently getting closer to finishing a disparity study into the experience of minority and women business enterprises (MWBEs) in County procurement. Specifically, the study will examine whether or not there is a disparity between the availability of MWBEs in the area and their utilization by the County, and, if such a disparity is found, what can be done to remedy it.

The period of County contracts the study looks at goes from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2021. The study process has been ongoing from June of 2022 and is estimated for delivery "by the end of Summer 2023".

The study's information gathering methodology to date has included community engagement in the form of interviews and public meetings; data collection; data analysis; and capacity surveys with local businesses. Any questions or comments regarding the ongoing disparity study may be sent to durhamcountydisparitystudy@miller3group.com.
